Aroma AWK-115S Hot H20 X-Press 1-1/2-Liter Cordless Water Kettle

I loved this product when it was working. I bought it in May 2009, and it made hot water quickly and reliably until last week, when it stopped working. I called Aroma, and they said that it had a 12-month warranty. They also said, however, that it "should not have stopped working after 14 months," and that they "stand behind their products" and provide out-of-warranty service. Unfortunately, the fees, handling and shipping for such service would add up to something in the neighborhood of 25 or 30 bucks, and I can just about get a new unit for that. I explained that, if (a) this "shouldn't" have happened, and (b) they "stand behind their products," then professing to offer service but making that option financially untenable was a funny way of showing it. Both the customer service rep and her supervisor were unmoved by this line of discussion, but I maintain that their policy is functionally the same as saying "you pays your money and you takes your chances; go buy a new one!" That's fine I guess, but I probably won't be buying a new one from Aroma. I am going to try my primitive gadget-mending skills on it, and if that fails, I will be in the market for a new kettle. As i noted, probably a different brand. I can't afford to buy one of these every 14 months.

I live next to this water kettle in the winter. It is fantastic for making hot tea on a cold day. And, unlike my last kettle, I never have to worry if I walk away and forget about it. It shuts off automatically! I have one, my mom-in-law has one, and we've given it as a gift within the family. I highly recommend this item!

Have this for over two years now, still works like new. Always shuts itself off (those that think it doesn't - try closing the lid :) In the pictures it looks like the cable retracts, mine doesn't - maybe I need to open up the base and oil it. But it's very convenient, looks good, water tastes great. Only caveat is that it takes a while to boil water, but that's usually not an issue unless you're looking to boil more than one load. All in all, highly recommended especially for the price.

Great kettle. Relatively quick to boil. It is almost as good as those in the UK.

I had been searching for a water kettle that I could use on business trips. Therefore, the kettle would need to be durable, functional, and easily transportable. This Aroma Water Kettle fit the bill. The design reminds me of an old style coffee pot with a flair. It heats water in record time to a full boil, pours easily without dripping, and the cord is connected to the separate heating element. I especially like the heating element design as it is built into the base of the kettle itself. There is also a viewing slot to see how much water you have added to the kettle. I gave this the highest rating based on design, ease of use, functionality, durability, and value. You'll love it!

I purchased this kettle as a replacement to my previous kettle (other make and model). So far I am very please with this product. The materials and finish seem to be high quality, the water has no bad taste after it is boiled in this kettle (this is a problem with other make/models that I have tried), the water comes to a boil very quickly, and the price is much more reasonable than other models on the market. Overall, I feel that this is a very high value product.

I used these things all the time while in China for a few months and when I got home, I realized how convenient they are. This thing boils a full 1.5 litres an shuts off in 6 minutes by my timing. I haven't had any problems with it so far, and use it for more than I originally planned. When I'm pressed for time I preboil cold water and tranfer to stovetop to speed up water for pasta, potatoes and it is convenient for household cleaning. It is attractive, simple and easy to clean. The outside does get hot, but the handle and the loop at the top are fine. The cord is a bit short, but I don't actually store mine on the counter top because it does it's job so quickly. Just what I wanted!

Won't automatically shut off, rust and leaking after 6 months of light use. Even it still has warranty, not worth the hazard to try again. It's going to the trash.

This tea kettle looked quite good from many reviewers' ratings and comments, but after two defective kettles, we have given up on this product and returned them both for credit. First kettle had a faulty weld seam at bottom with the potential for leakage and short lifetime (I've seen this happen before with other kettles). Sent it back without even using. The replacement was sent promptly (Amazon has been commendable in it's response to all this) but the second kettle was even worse than the first-- when filled and standing, a slow leak developed just under the power switch. That obviously posed a genuine safety hazard. It is on its way back and will not be replaced. Caveat emptor!! The reviews are good and that's why we ordered it, but it's a cheaply crafted, unreliable product that has displayed defects 2 out of 2 times. Lots of plastic, weak joints, and flimsy switches. Even if it looks and operates well from the beginning, it will most likely be destined to have a very short life. I believe most of the good reviews probably took low cost into the consideration. There's no reason to give it a high rating otherwise. Watch out -- 1 star (at most) for this clunker. As far as Amazon's response, nothing but 5 stars for them! This is the first product I've had problems with and had to return in a long history of many purchases of all kinds of products. They responded to this problem situation promptly, professionally, personally, and fairly. Can't say that about many businesses these days.
